One Band, Three Musical Styles by Barbara Russo Finding a band with multiple musical stylings is hard. But once you here it, believing that it actually works easy. Such is the case of Volatile Id, an Island-based rock trio that combines rock, rap, and even jazz elements to create a one-of-king sound that fans of almost every musical taste would enjoy.

The band consists of lead vocalist Omar Hammad, Niles French on the bass, and Matt Giordano keeping it all together on the drums. But there are no strict rules in Volatile Id. The guys frequently switch positions and are able to incorporate their own individual music influences, creating a unique sound for each song they perform.

"We have a lot of different influences in out band," explained French. "I listen to a lot of jazz, the Police and Quicksand."

To balance out French's style, drummer Giordano prefers material from the late 80's and early 90's, including Ozzy Osbourne and Pearl Jam. Imagine Ozzy belting out lyrics from Herbie Hancock. (Well, almost.)

This Tuesday, Volatile Id will perform at the Knitting Factory, located at 74 Leonard St. in Manhattan. Check them out. They may introduce you to something new. Showtime is at 10 PM on the Old Office Stage. For more information, call 212-219-2132 or visit www.volatile-id.com
